About Colby Design
After serving as senior designer and then art director of a Bay Area magazine, I started Colby Design in 1998. The goal was simple: to stretch creatively by doing a wide variety of projects — both print and web — from my own office. I believed it was possible to have a dream job doing what I love, and still have time to take my wife to a movie or shoot hoops with my son. It's taught me the importance of perspective and balance in one's life.
Balance in my professional life means getting to do different kinds of projects. If there's one thing about my business, it's that it's never boring. One day I'm knee-deep in web standards, the next I'm designing a 10-foot trade show booth. Each project is a new challenge to tackle, not another shift at the plant.
